Summer Fashion: Dos and Don'ts
The summer season typically means breaking our chains free from work and school. However that’s absolutely NO excuse to leave the house looking like a train wreck. Even though our brains may be mush from excessive suntan lotion and ice cold lemonade, follow the simple do’s and don’ts of summer fashion before heading out to your friend’s barbecue.
Do: Wear Light Colors
It’s time to go through your closet and get of all your dreary and dark winter clothing. After all, it’s so perky and bright outside- and you should be too! There is really only one thing you need to keep in mind for summer 2013: pastels! Pastels are completely in style no matter where you wear them: shirt, skirt, shoes, or all three. Align your entire closet with pastel pieces and you simply can’t go wrong. Want a really fashionable look? Try wearing a busy crop top (aztec, maybe?) with a pair of pastel high-waisted shorts. Finish off the look with your favorite pastel pumps and a few long necklaces for balance.
Do: Accessorize
Accessorize from head to toe, but don’t overdo it. Don’t throw on every piece of jewelry you own and think you look hot. There should be a perfect balance that accents your outfit beautifully. Try upping your outfit with a pair of must-have ray-ban, cat-eye, or aviator sunglasses. Throw a few long necklaces over your head and a small, pastel-colored shoulder bag over your shoulder. And ladies, please- don’t leave the house without a fresh coat of paint over your nails (fingers AND toes).
Don’t: Wear Capris
Ok, if you want to look like an out-of-style flashback to the 90’s, go ahead and traipse around in your favorite pair of capris. On the other hand, if you have any self respect you should burn every pair you own. Capris are just plain old out of style. Plus they aren’t very flattering to a woman’s figure. They tend to make the lower half of the body appear bulky and much larger than it really is (and isn’t that a woman’s worst fear?). Avoid looking like a ogre and replace those fashion disasters with a pair of trendy jean shorts from JBrand, True Religion, even Forever 21!

It’s summer! Time to wear the skimpiest outfits we own and blame the hot weather! NOT. Please, ladies, have some decency and class and cover up. We all know the weather is getting tremendously warmer by each passing day, but that doesn’t mean you can walk around like Adam and Eve. The perfect example of wearing too little is throwing on a white sheer top and a black bra underneath. Yes, sheer tops are incredibly fashionable this summer, but this combination is just plain wrong. For starters, sheer tops should have more than just a bra underneath them. Plus, you should never make this big of a contrast when sporting a sheer. Try a black sheer top with a black and white geometric bandeau underneath. This allows you to wear little without completely exposing yourself.
